Sometimes motive is important. Need rather than merely want can change the outcome if she thinks he is also trying to survive and to some degree a victim of the situation. The sniffing was interesting.

The enemy of my enemy is my friend? :D It does have some truth to it.
So does keep your 'friends close, but your enemies closer.' But both can cause betrayal in the end.
